LEFTOVERS! All woodworkers face the question, 'What can I do with my scrap wood?' We feel guilty throwing away perfectly good wood and end up hoarding the tiniest cut-offs.Why not show off the beauty of the wood itself by creating a scrap wood art project? You could get technical with this project by mapping out a pattern and cutting all the pieces to exact sizes, but I just took a bunch of short cut-offs to my table saw and chopped them to random lengths.
The most time-consuming part was fitting them all together, but it was kind of fun too.I eased over all the sharp edges on the visible of each block to give the artwork an overall quilted look.I glued them all to a square piece of MDF after dry-arranging them.
It helped to allow individual blocks to hang over the edges, rather than try to get them to fit into a perfect square.Since the pieces are all different heights I used a bag of sand to apply a bit of even pressure while they dried.
This is probably unnecessary: the wood glue will hold fine without clamping for projects they won't receive any stress. After the glue was dry, I trimmed the edges...
